How to Get Listed in iRail

iRail is organised by subject and most sites in it are suggested to me by users. Sites are placed in categories by myself, I visit and evaluate your suggestions and decide where they best belong. I do this to ensure that the Directory is organised in the best possible way, is easy to use, intuitive, helpful, and fair to everyone.

Submitting Your Site

I ask that you follow three simple steps if you have a site you'd like to suggest:

  1. Check to see if your site is already listed
An important first step, because if your site is already listed, you do not need to submit it again. Check by searching for your site by title, or by browsing appropriate categories. (You can do this from most pages within the directory using the search box near the top of the screen). If you would like to modify an existing URL, follow the directions below.

  2. Find the appropriate category in the iRail Directory
Finding an appropriate category for your site is at the heart of this process. Remember that I visit each site suggested and proper categorisation on your part helps me process suggestions quickly.

  3. Submit Your Site
Suggest your site by clicking on the "Submit Your Site" link on any page. Make sure you select the correct category then submit your listing. Remember that the final placement of your site is determined by me.

Please be prepared to provide your e-mail address, your site's title, URL, a brief description and key search words to associate with your entry. The better the entry the higher you will appear in search results. It's worth spending some time to produce a quality submission.

Updating Site Details

Locate your ID Number that was assigned to you when you signed up. It will be listed on the e-mail you received that notified you of being added to the database.  If you have lost your ID Number, you can find it again by pointing your cursor while in your web browser at your current listing and looking in the browsers status bar (at the bottom of the screen). You will see something like this:

http://www.irail.co.uk/cgi-bin/search/search.cgi?ID=991838111

The number at the end is your ID Number. You must also have available your email address as originally submitted. This is to protect your listing and prevent unauthorised persons from modifying your listing.

Armed with the ID Number visit the "Update Site Details" page. Enter the ID Number of your link, the system will email you a unique, one time access code. (This email will be sent to the email address used at the time of registration.) If you no longer have acccess to the registered e-mail address you should contact me explaining the situation.

I update the database on average every two days and sites following the guidelines above can expect to be added in this time. Please help me to help you by providing your information as outlined above.
